I’ve set up my phone so that I receive real-time updates/breaking news as it happens. This morning I woke up and read that Reese Witherspoon and her husband were arrested and stuck behind bars for a short while. The news made me smile because it’s completely ridiculous to me. I have no ill thoughts about Ms. Witherspoon and that incident doesn’t taint her good girl image in my eyes AT ALL. Often it’s too easy to cast judgment on people in the spotlight and forget that they’re human too. Try living your life under a microscope 24/7.
I love how if you think about it, there is so much to be gleaned from current events and pop culture. The reason why the aforementioned bit of news made me smile was because I have been familiar with Reese Witherspoon since I was a child and everybody knows that she’s a good person. Her words and her actions have been testament to her character for decades. This is why I have no trouble whatsoever believing in the statement that she released shortly after her jail stint.
“One drink too many” happens. We all speak careless and irresponsible words that we wish we could take back. The way that Ms. Witherspoon has lived her life has been so spotless that it’s so beautiful and inspiring to witness people laughing this incident off. In this manner, I want to be like her. I want to be the type of person that treats others with so much honour and respect and who is cognizant of their dignity and humanity that not just my closest friends and family would laugh off or deny bad reports that they hear about me outright, but people I barely know as well. Everybody makes mistakes, and Ms. Witherspoon was humble enough to admit and apologise for hers. What a fine example.
Aside from celebrating the life of my best friend Nika with my girlfriends, this was definitely the highlight of my day.
